Feeling Sperry Autumnal!

Although I'm a Summer girl at heart, I do love A/W clothing. We've had lots of sporadic weather lately which has made it difficult to get outfit photos. These pictures were snapped during a light shower which turned torrential, I'm so hardcore!

Hat: Dorothy Perkins - Leather Jacket: Morgan de Toi - Jumper: Matalan - Satchel: Dr Martens - Leggings: Next - Shoes: c/o Sperry

As you may have noticed from previous posts, berry tones are dominating my wardrobe this season. My jacket is an oldie but a goodie, I think it's about 5 years old but it's still in perfect condition and ideal for this A/W!

I really love these shoe boots by SperryMy favourite trend this season is 'English Heritage' and these Emory Oxford Lug Boots (£120) just scream country glamour to me. This style of shoe isn't something I'd usually associate with Sperry (for those who don't know, they sell stylish boat shoes) but the lug soles are nautically inspired so I'm sure they'd go down well at the boat club. As soon as I spotted them I wanted them and they are an absolute dream to walk in...I think they are the perfect A/W investment piece!

My new favourite bag (sorry Cambridge Satchel Co) is this cherry red satchel by Dr Martens. I'll be blogging about my Dr Martens factory experience later in the week so stay tuned for that. Just a heads up for my fellow Bristolians, an official Dr Martens store is opening here next week...Waaaah.

What's your favourite trend this season?

T- Sperry excited! XoX

Introducing Freak Of Nature - An Interview With Designer Vanessa Kortlang!

Freak Of Nature is a hot new brand from Australia that has just dropped on ASOS. It was love at first sight, so we got in touch with the awesome designer Vanessa Kortlang for a chat to find out more about what is possibly our new fave label!

Firstly, congrats on being stocked on ASOS.com - amazing!

Thanks a lot girls…yeah it has all happened really fast. The brand is literally only 2 months old, I only launched it in August! I had an awesome opportunity to start in the UK rather than here in Australia and ASOS bought the brand first go!

Tell us a bit about you and your brand Freak of Nature?

Well, I have a background in fashion working as a Designer for mainstream commercial brands, but for years have also been singing in rock bands and so have had a kind of schizophrenic lifestyle! My personal style is all about rock’n’ roll…..I collect vintage metal rock tees, and I love anything animal print, monster killer heels and a total overload of accessories, basically anything that is loud and gets you noticed! Rock’n’roll to me represents rebelliousness, fearlessness and individuality which I see a certain sort of wild glamour in. There are not that many labels out there for girls like me to wear….so the opportunity arose to create one! Basically, Freak of Nature is something I believe in, I wanted to create a brand that I would wear every piece myself. I wanted it to be edgy with a rock vibe, but easy, wearable and affordable and has attention to detail so it looks unique.

Where do you get your inspiration for the designs? They're awesome and super on trend, but still manage to be uniquely Freak of Nature!

Inspiration is seriously everywhere, I am pretty much thinking of fashion 24/7! But basically I just do what I love and have loved for years…I want to incorporate all my fave things into the brand. Apart from my own personal taste there are obvious sources of inspiration, I read fashion blogs and mags to see current trends and silhouettes and I am influenced by music from now and the past. Also fabric and trims can be inspirational and a really great starting point for a style.

Describe the Freak of Nature girl for us, and which celebs would you love to see wear the brand?

I’d like to think the Freak of Nature girl can be anyone really, I don’t want to alienate people. But in my mind I guess she is a bit of a mirror of myself. She is edgy, fierce, confident, individual, glam and stands out in a crowd.I would love to see Jessie J, Rita Ora, Iggy Azalea and well of course Rihanna wearing Freak of Nature. I love how the these girls play with fashion and are not afraid to experiment, they mix up styles blending hip hop, rock, 80’s, high end designer and high street and look amaaaze!

What is your fave piece from the collection and why? We LOVE the Shout At The Devil jumper!

Well my fave piece in the collection was not bought by ASOS it’s a Jacket called Love and War, boutiques bought it though, it’s a great shape and has studded leather shoulder pads and looks pretty dangerous! I’m glad you like the “Shout at the Devil” jumper I love it too…it was totally inspired by my Motley Crue tee! I love punk fashion and drool over the stuff Westwood did in the 70’s so the style of laddered knitting came from that era.

What's next for Freak of Nature? Do you see accessories in the line?

I have just finished my 2nd collection for opening Summer 13, so I hope it is received well. The brand is just so new it is hard to say what’s next, I suppose I just want to get a really loyal following of girls who are waiting to see what is next coz they have to have more!! If I was at some point to do an accessories line it would most definitely be OTT rings, I can’t get enough…. it’s one of my own signature things to wear huge knuckle dusters, so I would create my dream ring collection!

Seriously, how cool is this girl? What an amazing success story! T & I have long dreamed of just going for it and setting up our own label and Vanessa is now our inspiration for sure!

Keep an eye on the Freak Of Nature Facebook page for updates on new stockists with the rock girl musings of Vanessa, and the other eye on the Freak Of Nature at ASOS, it totally excites us!

Huge thanks to Vanessa for taking the time to indulge a couple of fangirls, good luck with Summer 13!

Rawrgirls Review . . . MeMeMe Metallic Nail Set From FindMeAGift!

Sunday, 28 October 2012

I recently got my hands on the MeMeMe Metallic Nail Varnish Collection, £14.99 from FindMeAGift so I thought I'd do us all a little review!
The set contains 4 full size polishes in a presentation box, so ideal for gifting. Inspiring is a deep green, Dignified is a heather purple, Seductive a dark red and Rebellious a khaki green with gold tones. I've had MeMeMe polish before and I do like the consistency in general (2 to 3 coats for true opacity) but I find the brushes to be too wide for my little nails, regardless, tis a small annoyance that is probably not shared by a lot of you.

The greens in the set are gorgeous, especially Rebellious, a really autumnal, warm khaki. Inspiring is a beautiful emerald. Both greens have a really high shine to them, so a good glossy party finish is guaranteed! I paired them together on one hand becaue together they give a nice ombre look!

The other two red/purple shades in the set, whilst not being so exciting, are still really nice if you're not feeling so adventurous. Seductive is probably my fave of the two, very chic. Dignified is a very safe choice for the set, verging on boring. I can't help thinking a luxe metallic sapphire blue would've been a better choice. Again, both have a high gloss finish. Again, they are paired together on one hand but the effect isn't as good as the greens because these two are maybe too similar in colour I feel?

Overall, this is another nice set from MeMeMe at FindMeAGift, which we like to keep a close eye on. Check out our review of the Smokey Eyes Create The Look set for more MeMeMe ideas!

J - It's all about MeMeMe.

I Declare Today Black Milk Friday!

Friday, 26 October 2012

When I woke up this morning it felt like a Black Milk kind of day. With Halloween just around the corner, there's a whole ton of Halloween-eque fashion popping up but nothing beats my favourite Ribs Swimsuit ($90 AUD).

I love Black Milk and I haven't been able to find a cheaper substitute with comparable quality. If you like printed apparel and money isn't an issue, I highly recommend another aussie brand called We Are Handsome. If I were a rich girl I'd be dripping in the stuff, best quality ever! That being said, Black Milk is super cool and I have a 'WANT list' a mile long.

My Oxblood Darcie boots by Dr Martens (£34.99 from TK Maxx) are quickly becoming one of my favourites for this A/W. I've paired them with my dip-hem skirt (£22.99) by New Look, studded belt from Topshop and suspender tights (£10) by Pretty Polly...because although I'm still dip-hem obsessed, it's COLD out there.

I'm a bit worried I'm going to wear woolly hat (£12) from Dorothy Perkins until it falls apart, it's firmly attached to my head these days. Same with my Bjorg x UO necklace, Bjorg is definitely on my Christmas list year! I hope someone I know wins the lottery.

This gorgeous little stack is from Raffles Bizzare (£5). Prices for bracelets range from £3 - £5 and they do all sorts of custom pieces too (like this one). I absolutely adore string bracelets so this is perfect for me and it's sooo cheap! I think I want something will skulls on next. If you'd like more info you can stalk the designer's blog here or follow them on Facebook

Are any of our readers fellow Sharkies? Let me know what you think!

Jarlo London In The Secret Garden...

Monday, 22 October 2012

I absolutely adore Jarlo London, they sell the prettiest dresses and their online store is full of vibrant colours, prints and flattering styles to suit every type of fashionista. I definitely think their A/W 2012 collection is their best yet, I'm absolutely smitten with it! I couldn't wait to get my paws on something, check out the latest addition to my wardrobe...

I really don't own enough red so when I spotted this beautiful Lucie Dress (£62), it had my name all over it. It has such a lovely lace bodice and a super flattering sweetheart neck line, it's the perfect day to night dress. It looks really sweet in the day with flats and a bowler hat, but at night it can we transformed into a knock-out red dress by adding killer heels, bold accessories and glam make-up/hair!

Rings: Wildfox + Lovisa

My cute little key necklace (£10) is from Wonsuponatime, a new hand made jewellery store. Each item comes with it's own story in a scroll - how cute!?

Everything is really affordable and come it all comes with free shipping which is another bonus! I'm thinking of getting a few other bits to give as Christmas gifts.

Is everyone else having fun building their A/W wardrobe? I really want one of Jarlo's capes, it's getting so cold! These pictures were actually taken (in a secret garden) in the rain, I whipped off my faux fur coat just for you guys - I'm so hardcore.

Rawrgirls Review . . . Violent Eyes Temporary Eye Appliques!

Saturday, 20 October 2012

The Violent Lips team have just released a new range for eyes! Violent Eyes (£6.22 per pack) are an exciting range of temporary eye appliqués to add a pop of glitter to your peepers and I tried Jet Black Glitterati out, you know, in the name of science and all!

Each pack of Violent Eyes temporary eye appliqués features 2 pairs each of 4 different eyeliner styles, that fit all eye shapes, are smudge proof and last up to 16 hours. You can trim them to size before application, but I didn't need to, and I found them surprisingly easy to apply! Check out the application vid before I show you the results. . .

To be fair, it took me 2 pairs to get it right, but when I got it right, they looked AMAZING. I have paired them with an amazing pair of falsies from Stargazer and a lot of eyeliner for a pretty hot Halloween look!

They don't even look like appliques when they're on, they are super smooth against the skin and just look like a really good glitter eyeshadow job! This is the thickest applique in the pack and it covers my whole eyelid with a large wing. A little wrinkling in the crease of the eyelid occured shortly after application but it you look down for a few minutes while they are just drying off and binding to the skin, you can keep this to a minimum. Application is a learning curve, but one I am definitely willing to keep working on because as you can see, they look pretty darn sexy!

Right now there is a 20% off Halloween discount code on the Violent Lips webby so now would be the perfect time to try these out in prep for the 31st! And I have the Rainbow ones to try yet too, and I'll be doing another look before the pumpkins come out with those so eyes out!

J - Eyes have it.

Boux Avenue Opens At Liverpool One!

Finally, gorgeous lingerie store Boux Avenue has come to my fave haunt Liverpool One, and guess who was there to check it out?!

It's a beautiful store, enhanced by the light that floods in over Liverpool's open to the elements mall, and the contents did not disappoint! Wall to wall eye candy in the form of beautiful lingerie, shapewear, fun PJ's and tons of accessories to suit every taste - to the pics! . . .

We were greeted at the door by gorgeous Boux Belle greeters, and assisted inside by the store's new Boux Belle's, fully trained in the art of bra fitting and the sweetest girls you could hope to meet! I've already been fitted in a Boux store so I didn't try the service on the day but I totally recommend it; the fitting rooms are luxurious and high tech, with adjustable lighting and an intercom system so you can alert your Boux Belle when you need expert advice!

I had an amazing chat with one of the Boux Avenue buyers (I was totally in AWE of her!) and she explained the new season processes and talked me through the super successful lines for AW12. This season's colours are jewel like purples, garnet and emerald, with touches of animal print and lace overlays, but they're already working on AW13! I was also interested to hear how suspenders are making a huge comeback (because I love them!), and she explained to me how they had introduced plain suspender belts into the range, enabling the customer to buy one that will match a number of different lingerie looks, clever! I'd find it hard to pick a fave set, but the Limited Edition Swarovski Elements set is sure to be a popular gift for christmas.

Boux is also known for it's amazing gifts and accessories, and this is actually my first year checking out the christmas lines, and WOW. Starting at just £2, it would be more than easy to fill everyone's stockings in one place. My fave thing is most definitely the Marie Cat slippers, £14, cutest things ever and top of my wants list!

And of course the PJ's :)  I fell hard for the Abigail leopard jumpsuit at £32, a more feminine alternative to a onesie, though there were loads of cute all in ones too, for those sofa moments!

Theo Paphitis was actually there to cut the ribbon at 1pm, I was in the presence of a dragon! I now totally understand why Tara was so nervous interviewing him for us last month! Squeee!

Whilst having a look around the store I met two lovely bloggers; Heidi from Hemlines & Holdups and Jess from Holy Tightss, I LOVE meeting other bloggers from oop north and these girls were both gorgeous lovelies! We were all thrilled to receive a goody bag which contained a gift card, cute knicks, lip balm, hand cream and a cool USB stick - hurrah!

Overall, fine holiday fun, I'm stoked that Boux Avenue is now in Liverpool. As much as I love the Trafford Centre store, it can get HELLA busy at weekends and christmas is am absolute 'mare, but Liverpool is my home city with such a relaxing, cool vibe going for it and I'll always love it there so I will certainly be directing my rawrboy in Boux's direction this christmas!

Big thanks as always to Team Fluorescent for inviting me along!

J - Wants to be a Boux Belle :)

Liverpool Fashion Week Opening Night with BooHoo.com!

Friday, 19 October 2012

Liverpool Fashion Week has finally arrived, and I was lucky enough to be invited to attend Monday's opening night event with BooHoo.com!

It was a glamourous night in Leo Casino by the city's famous docks, hosted by Sinitta and featuring several catwalk shows by exciting stores and designers. The BooHoo.com fashion show was the highlight of the night for me, the stylists did an amazing job putting some gorgeous outfits together and I thought a runway show would be the perfect opportunity to use the Burst - Best Photo feature on my Samsung Galaxy SIII phone, which has become my blog photography tool of choice since I got it via the Samsung Mob!ler project. Burst - Best Photo basically takes a quick series of shots out of which the phone will then indicate which is the best one for you.

Shots of moving models has never been my strong point, especially when I'm not at the end of the catwalk vantage point but I think my phone did a decent job even if the colours are a bit dull (but the light was fairly atmospheric to be fair), and I guess it's only as good as the girl pressing the button so I definitely need to practice a bit more, but check out the pick of the bunch, popped into a few grids for your viewing pleasure ;)

Sequins and metallics were at the forefront for the party season, with the highlight being the stunning Saoirse Sequin Jacket, £45. It really was breathtaking on the model, and the purple colour was so pretty in the light!
BooHoo.com demonstrates versatility for all our party needs, covering trends from studs and leather, animal print and fur to LBD's. I loved this red leopard print Gabriella blouse, just £18.

After the runway show I had time to look over some of the collection in the BooHoo.com stand, where I met blogger friend Gemma Satire and her lovely friend, so we took the opp to have a bit of fun picking out some fun pieces for live instagram pics! The stand was full of gorgeous pieces from 4 of BooHoo's AW12 trends; Utility Luxe (think military, khaki and animal print), Jewellery Box (sequins, velvet and jewels!), Baroque & Roll (black & gold, leather and brocade) and Manhattan Lady (pastels, ladylike chic, boucle jackets).

Accessories were just as covetable, I think we all cooed over the Diva Black Dalmatian boots, £35 which would be perfect with this season's berry coloured trousers! My Galaxy definitely preferred taking photos of the still objects but I still tried a few Best Photo shots because the light kept changing as the area crowded. You can tell that it works so much better with good light and in uncrowded areas as demonstrated by the clear as day pic of the luxe gold mock croc clutch bag. I think I'll be saving the feature for outdoor work in future, or indoor close ups.

It was a really fun night, and it's so good to see events like this coming to Liverpool, where fashion is SUPER important! To see more of the BooHoo.com key AW12 trends head to the Trends page on the webby, and while you're there don't forget to check out the new Boutique collection - it's AMAZING, so different and stylish whilst still maintaining that BooHoo price point we all know and love!

Huge thanks to the BooHoo team for inviting me and showing me around the collection!

Happy National Stockings Day!

Thursday, 18 October 2012

Last week, online legwear gurus TightsPlease challenged me to style up a pair of plain sheer stockings (Charnos Elegance Ultra Sheer in Natural Tan, £6.25) in time for 19th October which is Charnos Hosiery National Stockings Day in support of Breast Cancer Care, and I do love a challenge for a good cause!

This year the theme is 'You ‘Can Can’ wear stockings!', highlighting how good a girl can feel when wearing them! When you consider that 1 in 8 women in the UK will develop breast cancer at some point in their lives, and many of those brave women feel that they lose their femininity with the treatment, you can see how something like pretty lingerie and sexy stockings can help a woman get her groove back!

I have been loving Rihanna's recent stint of rocking stockings and suspenders with a casual twist so I thought I'd have a bit of fun and try it out myself . . .

Yup, I'm wearing my sheers (held up by cute teal suspenders!) underneath a pair of black House of Holland fringed hold ups so the natural coloured tops just cover my thighs, effectively hiding a multitude of bare flesh sins and doubling up on stockings for National Stockings Day in one hit! As JLo said, you can go hard or you can go home. Seeing as I am actually posing on my driveway here, I am successfully going hard AND going home. Extra credit ;)

My shorts are cut off Levi 501's and the tee is the adorable I LOVE CATS style from Hero & Cape (£25). This is one of the nicest tees I have ever owned, it's super soft and the most flattering cut for my shape, plus obvs the slogan is clearly for me! The cardi is good old M&S, the bag is a simple but much loved BooHoo.com crossbody worn on the shoulder and the spiked beanie is my new fave thing from Glitter & Trauma on ASOS Marketplace (£15).

For a bit of added sauce a la RihRih I added my River Island Thigh Chain, now handily in the sale for just £4.50 on ASOS. Maybe I should get one for the other leg . . .

Dear world, may I introduce you to my new Jeffrey Campbell-esque biker style boots, £37.99 from My Glamour Heels, one of our fave shoe stores. This is the first time I've worn them and I love how tough they look, which is good when you're trying to work stockings as outerwear!

Jewellery wise, I figure more is more with a look like this, so I'm running with a £5 Festival bracelet set from Raffles Bizarre, a fun set of 4 friendship style bracelets from one of our blogger friends Jess. The gorgeous Wolf necklace is from Maggie Angus (£18) and bringing the RihRih fierceness, awooooo! The C3PO ring is from an Etsy store, La Dee Da Shop, stocked in Room 31 - soooo many amazing designs, be sure to check them out. My 'tell your story' ring is £8.25 from wonsuponatime, a quirky jewellery store run by blogger friend Sarah, I just love rings with messages on them and this one is super cute!

My watch is from the new Pauls Boutique range. I'm very rarely parted from my window breaker L.A.M.B. watch but this could well persuade me to make a change occasionally! ;) If you're wondering, the metallic coffee coloured polish is Mavala 175 Platinum Marble, it's YUM.

Overall, I think I worked this challenge over. Two pairs of stockings worn as outerwear AND a flash of suspender?! I'm practically signing myself up for the next Watchmen movie as Silk Spectre III.

ANYHOO, Charnos has a Just Giving page, raising money for Breast Cancer Care! Please click through and give even just £2 like me because every little helps, see you there, and get your stockings on!

J - Stocking up.

A Wildfox Seeing Stars With Marc B!

Wednesday, 17 October 2012

The weather has been all over the place today! I decided to wear a distressed jumper and jeans but (rather sensibly) packed my umbrella for good measure.

Jumper: Wildfox - Jeans: New Look - Bag: Marc B - Necklace: Mi Moneda - Hat: M&S - Ballet pumps: Topshop - Ring: Lovisa

I really don't wear this Wildfox 'Seeing Stars' jumper enough (now £200ish) and I've spotted a few dodgy fakes popping up recently. It's probably one of my favourite pieces but I'm scared I'll end up ripping it (even more) so tend to leave it safely hanging in my wardrobe...Such a waste! I know it's an absolute beaut so I'm going to make a conscious effort to rock it more often.

My necklace is by Mi Moneda, a super cool dutch brand. This particular necklace has been seen on Rihanna several times and I absolutely love it. The pendant is interchangeable so the coin can even be replaced. Mi Moneda seems to be doing really well in Ireland but I can't wait for it to take off in the UK, it's only stocked at John Greed Jewellers at the moment.

This nommy bag is the 'Capesthorne' tan tote by Marc B (£47). When I leave the house, I pretty much carry everything but the kitchen sink so it's the perfect size for fitting everything in.  I really like the rich tan colour which is offset perfectly by the gold hardware.

The side panels are a beautiful ostrich leather. It also has a gorgeous leopard print lining and comes complete with a zip pocket, phone pocket and a place to keep your cards - pretty swanky, eh!?

You can buy Marc B directly from their website (which currently has a sale on) or from Topshop. There are so many other designs I have my eyes on *cough* ostrich EVERYTHING *cough*....I might just add 1 or 2 to my Christmas list!

Does anybody else own a Marc B bag? Sharing is caring! ;)
