Christmas in London: Premier Inn Southwark Tate Modern!

Monday 14 December 2015

Last month we hooked up with our good friend Steph of FAIIINT for a pre-Christmas London jaunt! The wonderful peeps at Premier Inn kindly put us up in their fab Southwark (Tate Modern) location for the night so we could relax into a girly catch up, complete with bridal dress fitting (yes Steph is making J's dress - squeee!) and cocktails at a central, warm and safe base.

The hotel itself was super easy to find and instantly agreeable. The staff were so lovely (we basically cleared the place of complimentary teabags without even so much as an eyebrow raise!), nothing was too much trouble. You know you're always going to get quality service and lovely clean rooms when you stay with Premier Inn, but this hotel is relatively new so we were treated to pristine surroundings! Speaking of surroundings, we were also majorly impressed to find a Tesco Express and Sainsburys Local literally across the road from the hotel entrance. So handy to grab a quick sandwich and a few drinks to have while we got ready to go out.

The room was perfect for the dress fitting. There was plenty of space and mirrors a plenty. You're not going to get any pics because it's obviously a huge secret but let's just say that Jade was super excited to see Steph's design and it couldn't have gone better - hurrah! After hours of settling in, dress fitting, chatting and a few cheeky Funkin' Cocktails, we decided to head out to explore the Southbank area, having heard that the Rekorderlig Cider Lodge had just opened, and the weather was perfect for it, cold, but crisp and clear.

Southbank was about a ten minute walk from the hotel and really easy to find. The area looked so beautiful, with twinkling fairy lights hanging from trees and the buildings and architecture alight with colour everywhere. The cider lodge was insanely good and we have to recommend you visit if there's one in your area. There was hot cider, hot food (mac and cheese, and pizza!) and hot music (think Lionel, Prince and Chaka Khan!) and we stayed for about 2 hours, dancing away and people watching. Everyone was bundled up in huge coats, scarves and hats so it was just really easy to relax and have fun!

When we got 'home', we got into our pj's and just talked about weddings and hot boys until the wee hours. It was the best night! In the morning we all woke up really early and refreshed considering, and went downstairs for breakfast (£10.50) which was amazing. We all chose a cooked selection (with Steph going with the veggie sausages), and followed it up with various pastries and muffins washed down with, yep you guessed it, MORE tea haha! The restaurant was lovely, so relaxed and welcoming, and the food was delicious, just what we needed after the night before!

Premier Inn Southwark Tate Modern Review

We were sad to check out of Premier Inn Southwark (Tate Modern), we'd had such a good stay, but we all agreed that we'd 100% come back to this location. We usually stay around Covent Garden on London trips, but Southwark/Southbank was so much more relaxed with a great atmosphere at this time of year, and we enjoyed the trip much more than usual!

As checkout was 12pm and our transport home wasn't until 3pm, Steph took us to the Tate Modern which was literally a 5 minute walk away, as neither of us could remember visiting it before. It was HUGE and so nice to feel like a tourist wandering around and giving our opinions on the art!

We were sad to wave goodbye to Southwark and Steph when it was time to part ways. Overall this was one of the best weekends in London we've had as pals. We adore Steph, she's a beautiful queen and so talented at designing and dress making, but also SO much fun to be around!

Huge thanks to Premier Inn for making our base camp for this trip so enjoyable too, with a fab location that is now 100% on our radar for future London stays!
