Our Ultimate Summer Driving Playlist!

Saturday 3 August 2013

I love driving. Tara loves summer. We both love music. Now if that's not a winning combination for an entry to the Money Supermarket Ultimate Summer Driving Playlist competition, then I don't know what is!

So before I thrill you with our playlist, I'm going to treat you to a pic of my first car. We called it the Lilac Love Machine, and back in '98, this baby took me and my girls on many a spontaneous summer day trip, one of my favourites being a free A1 concert in Wallasey. It really was the 'summertime of our lives' . . .

And in no particular order, this is our #UltimateDrivingPlaylist! . . .

Prince - Take Me With You
From the' Purple Rain' soundtrack, you can almost hear The Kid's motorbike roaring and feel the wind in your hair. Open that sunroof!

Rihanna - We Found Love
Turn it up LOUD and close your eyes! Unless you're the driver obviously, then you can just sing along whilst concentrating firmly on the road ahead.

Kanye West - Gold Digger
There's nothing funnier than a car full of people rapping along to Gold Digger, trust us.

Jay Z & Beyonce - '03 Bonnie & Clyde
The most awesome duet ever.

Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me
The coolest hair rock song ever made, but try to keep a straight face at the traffic lights.

Hall & Oates - You Make My Dreams
It's just such a happy song, and is guaranteed to take your mind off the fact that you need a wee 10 minutes into a 90 minute journey.

Lady Gaga - Summer Boy
Awwww, we miss Just Dance Gaga and her fun, bop in your seat songs!

N.E.R.D. - She Wants To Move
The perfect pick me up for a motorway standstill. Phantasising about Pharrell is allowed if the engine is turned off and the handbrake is on ;)

Eve & Gwen Stefani - Let Me Blow Ya Mind
Expressway, hair back, weavin' through the traffic!
Gwen is our homegirl.

Britney Spears - I'm A Slave 4 U
OBVS. Oh Britney, what would a road trip be without you?!

Jay Z - Girls Girls Girls
Such a chilled out groove, don't act like you don't pretend to be each one of his girls as he reels them off.

Will Smith - Miami
Seriously. This IS summer driving at it's best!

No Doubt - It's My Life
Yes Gwen, yes it is, and I'm going to live it right now, rawwrrrrrrrr!!!!

Daft Punk - Lose Yourself To Dance
Life may be speeding, but you shouldn't be ;)

Notorious B.I.G. - Hypnotize
I like to keep an eye out for the West coast crew as I cruise down the local high street past Greggs and the Co-op.

See anything you like?

In all seriousness, there is logic behind the idea of a great driving soundtrack. THINK! research suggests that almost 20% of accidents on major roads are sleep or tiredness related. Long journeys on motorways can lead to a lack of concentration and as well as other preventative measure, listening to songs you love can be a good way to stay alert and focused on the road, so get downloading, ripping and burning and make yourself a little mix tape for your next journey!

J - Here in my car.
