MCM Comic Con Liverpool with Travelodge #EvolvingCities

Monday 14 March 2016

Travelodge have recently focused on Liverpool's rich and vibrant heritage with their #EvolvingCities campaign, creating an interactive 'map' showcasing some of my fave city's attractions and landmarks and celebrating how far Liverpool has come over the last century. I LOVE a day out in Liverpool, it's always changing and there's always something new to see and do every other week, and you don't have to spend a lot to have an amazing time.

This weekend Tim and I had Priority tickets to MCM Comic Con Liverpool which was held in the Exhibition Centre, just a step away from the Echo Arena on the docks. Being huge nerds, we were super excited and got there for 9am to find an already huge queue to get in, turns out we aren't the only scouse geeks to have made the trip!

Literally every other person has dressed up as their fave comic book character, movie icon or anime hero. Some costumes were incredible, but we were boring and stuck to our own clothes. This was our first Comic Con so we didn't know what to expect, but next time we'll be prepared!

The whole place was jam packed with exhibitions, stalls and fun times to be had for everyone. The atmosphere was fab too, there was a lot of love in the room for sure. This community has nothing but nice things to say to each other, there was a lot of compliments flying for those who had made the effort to dress up, and the body confidence was through the roof, which was really nice to see. It didn't matter if you were big or small, short or tall, the clear message was that you can be who you want to be, and it was so nice to be a part of that for a few hours. You hear people say it a lot, but Liverpool people really are the nicest, friendliest bunch you'll ever meet.

There was so much to take photos of, so we did a lap then I snapped away while Timmy browsed the stalls again. I was in awe of the Steampunk section which featured these beaut Star Wars creations, which is also where I found these adorable gals dressed as their faves from the franchise. Everyone was so accommodating when I asked for pics, I figured they were expecting it and were taking it as a compliment. It must've took some of them all day to look around the stalls though, there were certain people who couldn't take more than a few steps without someone wanting to have their photo taken with them, exhausting!

My fave cosplayers were these three couples; Black Canary and Arrow really working the leather there, Deathstroke and Bane (errr, how amazing is he really?!) and the cutest little Harley and Joker! I'm not going to lie, I quite fancy myself as a Rogue or Khaleesi next time ;)

I'm so glad I got us Priority tickets as were were let in a whole 2 hours before the general admission tickets, so we had the run of the place while everyone else queued up outside. We stayed for about 3 hours and bought a few bits and pieces, though we could've spent a fortune. Damn wedding. When we got outside we we shocked to find that the queue to get in was still massive, wrapped around the entire exterior wall of the Echo Arena! It was an experience I definitely want to repeat and I'll be looking out for it coming back to Liverpool next year for sure.

Nerding out for hours really worked up an appetite, so we wandered into the city centre from the Dock and made our way to one of our fave eateries Lucha Libre on Wood St. This is another thing I love about Liverpool, everything is so close together and totally walkable, yet it only takes a matter of steps to feel like you're in a completely new part of town. If you are ever in Liverpool and looking for something yummy to eat and drink, you can't go wrong with Lucha. It's the best Mexican food I've come across, their cocktails are insane and the service is super friendly!

I ordered the Fish Burrito (yes, those are sweet potato and spicy fries INSIDE the burrito!), and Tim had the Bacon and Egg Tacos. Guys, I can't tell you how much this food hit the spot. For dessert we ordered both the Maple Syrup AND Chocolate Churros, because we're ballers. SO good!

We had the best day out, and I didn't even step foot into a clothes shop, can you believe it? It was a true day out in that sense, not just window shopping for something to do. This was the kind that tires you out and keeps you talking all night about what you saw and what you did? :) I love that we can take a short drive into such an amazing city that has something for everyone. Have a nose at the Travelodge #EvolvingCities map for more inspiration on visiting my fave city, Liverpool
