Rawr Girls Interview: The Designers Behind Olivia Burton!

Monday 2 June 2014

Next month sees the launch of an exclusive Olivia Burton watch at one of our favourite boutiques, The Dressing Room! As we love both companies, we were really excited when our friends at TDR arranged for us to interview the gorgeous duo behind OB.
The Dressing Room Olivia Burton WatchThe Dressing Room exclusive Olivia Burton watch (£75) - coming July 2014!

Hey girls, thanks for doing this interview with us - we're such Olivia Burton fangirls! Can you tell us how Olivia Burton started?

Jemma: I had the pleasure of meeting Tara very briefly this year and it's so lovely to hear that you're fans of the brand! Lesa and I have always been very passionate about accessories and until now struggled to find a watch that we really wanted to wear so we decided to create our own. We both have a lot of experience working in the fashion industry and after graduating we clocked up time at the likes of Selfridges, Topshop and ASOS. We always dreamt of starting our own business but knew we needed to get some real experience in the industry before even contemplating going it alone. Our first collection launched in AW12 with Harvey Nichols.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Lesa: Inspiration comes from so many different things for us. We spend many a weekend trawling through antique shops together looking for beautiful pieces of jewellery and curios. Our studio is full to the brim with little (and rather large) pieces that we pick up along the way. Nature plays a big part in our collections and Jemma has the most incredible collection of butterflies that are over 100 years old that we photograph and incorporate into some of our watches. We also love looking at what is coming through on the catwalk. We are always at London Fashion Week street style stalking and keeping our finger on the pulse of what's happening in the fashion world.

We're forever swooning over your pieces, do you have a favourite watch?

Jemma: Why thank you, that’s so lovely of you! Favourite watch at the moment has to be the moulded bee, it's such a conversational piece and always commands attention. We have recently launched a parlour collection that is inspired by vintage compact mirrors which I absolutely adore. I am still deciding between the two which are equally as beautiful.

Are there any particular trends we should be looking out for this S/S and for the season ahead?

Lesa: Pastels aren't going anywhere any time soon. We cant get enough of dusty pink and powder blue. Our powder blue and rose gold big dial has flown out, it's like gold dust right now. It's so striking and equally really versatile as it looks great paired with muted tones and brights. We have just launched some limited edition neon styles too which are great for festival season and perfecting that wrist stack.

Who are your celebrity style icons? Are there any celebs/fashionistas you'd love to see rockin' OB?

Jemma: My goodness, that’s a hard one. There are so many celebs and fashionistas that we style crush over. I love how Millie Macintosh experiments with colour and Rosie Fortescue knows how to put a striking outfit together and is always so well accessorised. There are bloggers like Olivia Purvis (What Olivia Did) who always look so effortlessly cool. We love fusing high street with designer and vintage and it's nice to follow celebs and bloggers who do the same as they more often that not feature pieces that we can buy into.

Can we expect a men's collection anytime soon?

Lesa: You can indeed. It's all very tight lipped right now but the gents can expect something towards the end of year (in time for Christmas). I can't say much more than that right now..

Tell us something we don't know about Olivia Burton!

Jemma: Our very first confirmed stockist when launching Olivia Burton was The Dressing Room!

Thanks again to Jemma and Lesa for answering our questions! We just adore this wonderfully British brand and can't wait the exclusive watch from The Dressing Room to launch next month. We're also looking forward to putting our Rawrboys in some OB this Christmas. ;)

Have you heard of Olivia Burton?

  6. I'm not really a watch person (my eyes seem to lose focus when I look at a watch/clock face), but the one in the photo is lovely.
