Spectacles Schmectacles!

I don't think I've ever wore my glasses for you guys have I? Well here you go. My name is Jade, AKA Speccy Four Eyes

I've wore glasses since I was 3, outed as short sighted early in life by my tendency to sit two inches away from the TV while Rainbow was on. I am quite the blind mouse, and basically if it's not an inch from my face then it's a blur. I wrestled with being visually challenged throughout my childhood and teenage years, pretty standard stuff really, a milk bottle prescription from the get go and a severe lack of cute styles for kids didn't help matters. As a teen I wore the same pink frames for 5 years through high school for fear of changing them and reigniting the fascination with my ridiculously thick lenses amongst my class of peers. At 16, my mum took me to get contact lenses before I went to college and my entire world changed overnight. Yes it took an extra 2 hours to get ready in the morning while I got used to putting them in, but once they were in I felt so free and confident, like a new person. I imagine people who have laser eye surgery (which is the dream for a lifer like me) feel the same when they finally get to throw away their glasses, contacts and saline solution. Anyhoo, my point is, that even though I wear my contact lenses everyday all day, I am finally at peace with my specs. They've come a long way over the years and are even used as a fashion accessory by those of you who obviously didn't suffer the torment of being a geeky child spectacle wearer.

So this is me, in my current Karen Millen frames which I hardly ever wear because I actually find it difficult to see in them (ironic after all those years negotiating life behind the thick glass bars), but I am finally comfortable with them, and that's the important thing I guess. And yes, the lenses really are that thick. What can I say? My prescription keeps me grounded and reminds me where I came from ;)

Um, outfit?! . . . - Glasses - Karen Millen, Hat - River Island, Vest - TShirt Subway.
