The M&S Style Challenge - What To Wear For A Job Interview - Outfit 4!

Tuesday 16 October 2012

Thanks again for all the comments on last week's outfit for the M&S Style challenge, the student look was a difficult one for me but you seemed to like it! This is the last week that I'll be styling the Contrast Collar & Cuff Shift Dress!

This week's brief is . . . 'Back to work - interviewwear for a yummy mummy going for an office based job after a career break.'

Here we go!

I have zero experience of what it is to be a working mum, so I had to use my wiles on this one. I'm working on the basis that a mum who has just spent at least a year on a break from the old career, and has spent a lot of time around children and other people's children for all that time is going to want to get her groove back in the adult world, so I glammed it up a little for this one.

The dress is a great look because it shows off my figure without being sexy, so I can have a little fun with my make up and accessories. Instead of a tailored jacket, I'm working a casual denim blazer which immediately gives the outfit a youthful look. A simple gold pendant under the collar adds a touch of sparkle whilst a striped belt gives the dress a quirky edge.

My make up is heavier than the previous looks. I'm wearing a strong upper lash line and blacker than black mascara, with a dark red lip gloss - all designed to convey confidence with sophisticated maturity. My hair is swept up into a side parted chignon, keeping it out of my face and letting my ruby lips do the talking!

My bag is purposefully small. I'm looking to leave my motherly role at home while I'm at the office, so a huge bag holding all kinds of child friendly things just isn't welcome in this outfit!

A pair of nude fishnets are a more fashionable alternative to sheers, and my simple patent heels in this season's teal green bounce nicely off the similar colour on my chic designer bag.

Outfit details : Dress - c/o Marks & Spencer, Blazer - Charley 5.0, Necklace/Ring - Jon Richard, Belt/Tights - TK Maxx, Bag - L.A.M.B., Shoes - Matalan.

Are there any working mums who would like to offer any other advice on back to work looks?

I've really enjoyed this challenge series! Huge thanks to M&S for involving us!

J - Feeling yummy head to toe.

That dress is so flattering and gorgeous, I love the pops of colour you've added to spice it up but still keep it suitable for work.

  4. Gorgeous work outfit - I sometimes wish I worked in an office just so I could experiment with work wear (a bit sad I know!) Especially love the accessories - that bag is so cute and I love the bright colour of your shoes.
