Busting Out Of The GLOSSYBOX And Into My Life...

Thursday 5 January 2012

The unveiling and reviews of the monthly Glossybox has become a regular blogger event for a lot of us, and after receiving a few GB's myself now I thought I'd take stock and look into the items that the scheme has introduced me to that I have either purchased, plan to purchase and/or have recommended to others, in a 'what has Glossybox taught me' kind of way :)

The first item that springs to mind as a fave is the HD Brows Eye & Brow Palette from September.

Worth a whopping £19.95, I have used this every day since I opened my first Glossybox and I wouldn't be without it now. I used to use pencils on my black brows but I will NEVER go back to them! I received the Foxy colourway which is mid range for brunettes, but I would probably re-purchase in Vamp next time. I actually purchased Vamp for a brow crazy friend as a gift, we both have similar colourings and I covet it every time I see her!

Also from the September box came the L'Oreal Mythic Oil, priced around £11.95.

I was super impressed with this product and would definitely buy it again once the generous full size bottle runs out. I also purchased a bottle as a gift for a friend who regularly uses products like Moroccanoil on her barnet. I think it makes an acceptable and cheaper alternative that I probably wouldn't have tried if it wasn't in my Glossybox.

The October box introduced me to Dermalogica AGE Smart Renewal Lip Complex just as the cold snap was setting in.

It was just a sample size but I'm hooked. My lips have never felt so good so I guess it's time to throw out all the candy coloured fruit flavoured balms and grow up! At £22.50, a full size isn't cheap but definitely in my future (the sample is STILL going!). Investment doesn't even cover it.

Another fave from October was the Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in a very flattering moss green colour called MORAY, and worth £13.

You see, not only do you get to try products you might not normally go for, but you also get colours you might overlook in favour of the more obvious. I discovered that this green looks better on my brown eyes than brown does, as a more natural alternative to my usual black. Also, twist up mechanism eyeliners are my fave, make them waterproof and I'm there with bells on. This one ticked every box for me and I'd definitely buy it in another colour. Fine holiday fun.

November took me back to basics with a surprise front runner, the Dead Sea Spa Magik Dead Sea Bath Salts, around £5.50 for 1kg!

One word - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... I'm going to be honest and say that I have never used bath salts, ever (despite being partial to a Lush Bath Bomb fizzing away occasionally), but thanks to Glossybox I have discovered a new way to relax in the tub. Oh, and they make your skin glow too - BONUS!

November's Glossybox also gifted me my fave pack of Nail Rock Designer Nail Wraps - black and white stripes!

I was meaning to pick this style up for ages so I literally squeee'd when I opened November's GB, coincidence or the holy work of our lord RPattz? Regardless, at £6.65 a pack, Nail Rock are a must try treat. My friends love them, especially when I took my collection into work on the last day before christmas and we all rocked out! :)

December's box was a total gift! All dressed in red, tied up in a bow, and carrying an AMAZING haul so it's hard to pick favourites but here we go...

I was definitely feeling festive when I pulled out the Deborah Lippmann Razzle Dazzle Mini Nail Polish, a raspberry glitter perfect for the party season. Deborah Lippmann isn't a brand I had tried before but I loved the depth of colour and quickly found myself googling away looking at the other colours in the range. Must. Refrain. Self.

The Rituals Foaming Shower Gel (Full Size) in Hammam Delight at £6.50, is a new experience I will definitely be trying again.

I have tried Rituals cosmetics before but never their body range and it's actually really yummy, and well priced. The foam itself feels rich with an invigorating scent. The Hammam fragrance is made up of ginger and eucalyptus, the perfect choice for me because I LOVE spicy bath and shower products and I see they also sell a Hammam candle, so that's on my birthday list. Now scent layering can go one step further than just bath/shower, lotion and perfume! ;)

And finally, my new best friend, a full size Nip + Fab Spot Fix, £9.95. Seriously, little buddy, where have you been all my life?

I marvel at this little tube's ability to makeover my skin. I've always suffered with spot breakouts, even now in my 30's, and have tried all sorts of lotions and potions to curb and conceal, but a dab of this and even the meanest spot is giving up overnight! Cur-freaking-azy, I do not lie. It dulls redness, mattifies and generally gives me an acceptable no make-up face before bedtime. Wonder product, and I have Glossybox to thank for setting us up!

And so far, so good. If you are a beauty product lover, enjoy a surprise and trying new things, and you have a spare £12.95 a month, I think you get a great selection of high quality products (that are often full size) to warrant the subscription. Yes, some of them are more miss than hit (I find the perfume and expensive RRP eye cream samples to be a bit of a disappointment for example) but you can see from my faves from the last 4 boxes that you are more than likely to find some new friends that you soon won't be able to live without, though whether this is good for your wallet is another matter! I would not normally find myself purchasing a £22 lipbalm for example, but what the hellz, we all deserve a treat every now and again, and at least I know it works for me.

What have been your fave Glossybox products so far?
