First Light Cosmetics - Amazing Minerals - REVIEW!

Monday 20 September 2010

I was lucky enough to be sent some products to try from First Light Cosmetics, the official supplier to Britain's Next Top Model! They say that their name is 'a reflection of the freedom offered by this new generation of cosmetics that we hope will transform the way you use and think about make-up', and I have to agree!

The products are made from 100% pure minerals which means free of chemicals and preservatives that are used to “fill out” many other cosmetics. They are also hypo-allergenic, noncomedogenic and contain an SPF to protect from the daily sun. PLUS, they come sweetly packaged in pouches that are produced by women in the Mabinti Center in Tanzania, an economically disadvantaged part of the world which needs help to develop their own commercial enterprises. The aim is to empower people to become economically independent which is just fantastic :)

Tara is always singing the praises of mineral foundation, but I was yet to have a good experience with it. The ones I have tried have either been terrible colour matches and/or are difficult to blend, leaving me with patchy coverage - ugh! Until now...

First Light Cosmetics were kind enough to send me the Mineral Foundation, £12.99, the shade I chose was Winter Bloom. The range of shades for this product is extensive, yet so easy to figure out that I got it totally right first time! I tapped a little out into the lid and grabbed my fluffy kabuki, it went on like a dream! I didn't need to use a lot and can describe the texture as a light loose powder. As soon as the brush swept across my skin it disappeared, leaving a matte, natural looking finish which was surprisingly well covered! My skin is not perfect, I have small blemishes and I found they were covered just as well as they are when I use my liquid foundation, yet the colour and finish was much better. This result lasted ALL day, amazing staying power for a powder product! FLC Mineral Foundation has definitely converted me, I would buy this foundation in a second!

Secondly, FLC sent me the Mineral Eye Light, £9.99. A soft, light emitting loose powder for concealing puffiness, redness and dark circles while diminishing signs of fatigue. The jar is small but you don't need a lot at all, I simply dabbed it under my eyes from my fingertip. I barely had to blend before the area looked noticeably brighter, as if I had used a highlighter concealer pen, but more natural (I've always found the pens to look either very 'white' or too 'tan' under my eyes). Again, the look lasted all day and I didn't have to reapply once. Love it.

Last but not least, FLC treated me to their Mineral Eyeshadow in Bali Sunset, £5.99. Bali Sunset is a warm, light green shot through with gold, stunning to be honest and a colour I don't actually have anything like in my vast collection or eyeshadows! Being loose powder, I applied it with a soft brush first and was pleasantly surprised at how pigmented it was even when stroked onto the lid lightly, pressing it onto the lid with a sponge applicator just made it POP hard - amazing. Staying power was first rate, yes it faded slightly through the day to look more gold into the night than green, but in such a pretty way I wasn't bothered, and most importantly it DID NOT CREASE!! The colour range is beautiful, with Midnight Mauve standing out as a potential next purchase!

So overall, I'm LOVING First Light Cosmetics! You should definitely give these products a whirl, why not try some sample sizes at £1.50 with free postage? With the choice of then deducting the price of up to 2 samples against the purchase of a full size jar, there's not much to lose!

You can follow FLC on Twitter and Facebook for updates and giveaways!

BIG thanks to First Light Cosmetics for letting me try their wares, consider me converted guys!
