McArthurGlen & Brooks Brothers: The Iconic White Shirt

Wednesday 2 November 2016

A few weeks ago, I took a trip to my local McArthurGlen designer outlet to take part in an exciting blogger challenge! To tie in with the launch of Brooks Brothers' White Shirt bar, which toured the country in a six-wheeler American truck, I was given the task of styling one of their classic white shirts.

How do I usually wear a white shirt? With jeans, a fedora and some trainers. Standard. However, I wanted to think outside of the box and try something new for this challenge, so promised myself I'd be open minded while scouring the stores. I was armed with a gift card, selfie stick, snacks (for energy) and a swish notebook. Everything a woman needs for a successful shopping day.

The White Shirt bar was launched by Millie Mackintosh, who styled her own Brooks Brothers shirt with black skinnies. Of course the key ingredient to an effortless, white shirt ensemble is the perfect crisp shirt. I own 3 white shirts but none compare to the quality of this american classic. The brand is renown for high quality and timeless designs, was established in 1818 and has been worn by some of the most iconic people in history - from Roosevelt to Bristol's own Cary Grant!

I always enjoy visiting Swindon Designer Outlet. It has a large range of fantastic outlet stores such as Ted Baker, Reiss, Jaeger, Levis and Yumi and the staff are friendly and attentive. If like me, you love a bargain and want PLENTY of options when buying gifts, I definitely recommend visiting just before and after Christmas.

So here's the deal, it took me 7 hours to find this look! Of course there were plenty of food stops in between - shout out to the amazing staff at Carluccio's - but I wanted to check out everything before making my final decision.

In the end I decided on a beautiful broderie cut out skirt from Jigsaw (£149 online), aldwych maze block heels from Clarks (RRP £45), the Fiorelli Acacia bag (£45 online), statement necklace from M&S and the coolest Marc by Marc Jacobs watch (£185 online). The best bit? I got everything for £200!

It must be said I'm really happy with my outfit. I think I seriously lucked out with this beautiful skirt and my statement watch. I wanted to choose a selection of items I could re-work and wear separately, and I've definitely done that. This cut out skirt will look great with a crop this party season, I can't wait to wear the shoes with my favourite skinnies and my new watch is practically stuck on my wrist. As for my Brooks Brothers shirt, when I'm not wearing it like this, I'll be styling it with jeans, chinos or another awesome midi!

How do you wear your white shirt?

T - Mission accomplished.
