Rawrgirls Review . . . OPI Glitter Off Peelable Base Coat!

Sunday 4 May 2014

A few weeks back I nabbed the new OPI Glitter Off Peelable Base Coat with much anticipation. At £11.95 I really hoped it was going to do the business on what is possibly one of THE most annoying beauty problems known to woman - the removal of glitter nail polish. Can I get a hell yeah up in hurrrrr?! The first thing you notice is that it looks, smells and feels like primary school glue; thick, white sticky gloop. Ahem. Here it is drying on the nail. Once dry, it turns clear and just looks like a matte base coat.

Once dry you simply apply your chosen glitter polish as you would normally. For this trial I actually layered two of my faves, Orly Monster Mash (a green tint with green glitter) and OPI In True Stefani Fashion (a clear base holographic silver glitter), in a 3 coat hit and run, just for shizz and giggles.

I wore it like this for 3 days before I went for the big peel, but if I'm perfectly honest, I had a bit of a thumb pick on day 2 and whilst it lifted off at the corner for me it didn't actually follow through without me encouraging it further, so all you glue pickers out there can get a bit of satisfaction from it without totally ruining your mani ;) Anyhoo, no problems with the lift off when the time came, it just comes off like a peelable wrap or falsie depending on the number of coats on the nail! Mmmm, this is an attractive photo but still, entirely necessary to illustrate the lift off effect.

Once removed the nail is left in fairly decent health, and with a quick wipe over with your usual polish remover to moisturise and clean them you're ready to start again! When it came to glitter polish I was a picker rather than a soaker, so I would wreak havoc on my nails and this product pretty much solves all my glitter polish problems. One thing I would mention though, since prepping this review I have used the base coat several times and I've noticed that the thicker your glitter, the more likely you are to lose a 'nail' in full. I literally lost one whilst pulling my jeans up and found it on the floor like a perfectly reusuable stick on nail!

Would I recommend this product? Yes, it does exactly what we have all wished for, but just be careful because it has a tendency to do it maybe a bit too well ;)

  6. I may have to buy my Mum this for her birthday, she's a nail polish-aholic & is always moaning about how hard glitter is to get off! I'm not sure I'd be able to resist the temptation to peel this off as soon as I'd put it on though, it's the most satisfying thing ever!
