Rawrgirls Review . . . OPI Drip Dry Lacquer Drying Drops!

Saturday 3 May 2014

A few months ago I attended a Next event where we were treated to manicures. The lovely nail technician used a magical product called OPI Drip Dry Lacquer Drying Drops to help set my wet nails! I added it to my mental *want list* and finally bought it from Feel Unique last week.

It retails for £13.95 which I figured was a small price to pay for such an awesome product. I'm forever smudging my nails just after painting them which is the most annoying thing EVER.

The bottle is 9ml and comes with a cute dropper for easy application. The instructions advise you add 1 to 2 drops to each nail when wet. I painted my nails as normal, with a base coat and a top coat, and then waited 60 seconds. I wasn't sure how messy they would get so the first I applied the drops was in the bathroom. The first thing I noticed is that 2 drops don't go very far. Perhaps if you have short, baby nails it would be more than enough, but this wasn't the case for me and I averaged 3 drops per nail. I found I got better coverage if I used it on a slight angle so I definitely recommend you do that if you buy this product.

The drops also contain Jojoba and Vitamin E in to help sooth cuticles - something I need desperately! It's a gentle product with a faint smell (which isn't offensive) so suitable for sensitive skin. After my nails had dried, I noticed the shine of the top coat has been reduced. I love a good glossy nail so this was a downside for me. However, it did what it promised, after 1 minute my nails were dry to the touch and after a few more minutes the polish was completely dry. Huzzah!

Would I recommend this product? Probably. If you're in a hurry and you don't have time to sit around waiting for your nails to dry, it's pretty nifty. That being said, I can imagine getting through a bottle in no time at all because it has the consistency of water and I require 3 drops per nail. So for £13.95, I think I'll save it this little baby for emergency situations.

  2. I always paint my nails and hate it when they smudge so I might have to try this! I normally use seche vite because I find that it dries within a minute and a little goes a long way but the smell is horrible!

  3. It's a cool idea but like you would probably only use it in emergencies as I also like a glossy nail!

    1. I've used it a lot more than I intended too and the gloss reduction isn't so bad!

  4. It sounds like an interesting product. I doubt I'll pick it up though, I barely ever remember to use a base/top coat so the drops would definitely be forgotten.

  5. Gosh, I hate waiting for my nails to dry! And then I always immediately chip them aha. This sounds pretty good as I paint my nails so rarely, the bottle would probably last for a long time :) xxx

  6. It's been ages since I did my nails, I'm lucky to get the nailpolish painted on smoothly and well, and getting them dry without smudging was always difficult. Since it would primarily be for Halloween and I usually don't have someone to do it for me, I think the OPI Drip Dry Lacquer Drying Drops would help a lot. It always took me about three hours to get ready even when I was trying to rush. My cuticles could use the soothing too.

    1. Awww, applying nail polish by yourself is always that much harder. Before using this it felt like I was waiting for at least 2 hours for them to try! This definitely saves a lot of time. :)

  7. This does sound like a good product as I have a lot of problem with drying my nails too. But like you discussed, there's not that much quantity for the price.. And it removes the shine too.. So I probably wouldn't buy it. However, it could be useful for fashion emergencies and if it does what it says then it might be worth the investment. I often don't paint my nails before going out because they'll get smudged and ruined, so for situations like those I think this would be perfect

    1. It's definitely ideal for emergency situations! After using it a few more times I don't think the shine reduction is as bad as I first thought. It's still quite expensive though!

  8. Ps. If you're worried about the health of your nails I'd suggest you try Vaseline hand and nail cream (the pink one)... I use that daily as my moisturiser and it works wonders!

Pps. I LOVE the royal blue nail colour!!!

  9. Sounds like a little miracle worker! ;-) Not a time goes by without me smudging my fresh nail varnish, such a pain in the neck so I really should invest in this!

In love with that gorgeous cobalt blue, stunning <3

  10. Agreed . I would save it for the special occasions too. With the level of my clumsiness, I wish they did it in tubs :)

  11. This sounds lovely :) I have tried drying licquers from the likes of Avon and other cheaper brands but not OPI as I always find them so expensive especially when I don't do my nails often but I love the sound of this and when I do use nail polish I always like to have a drying spray or polish to cover as a top coat to stop the finished look from smudging as it always happens to me as I get so impatient having to wait for it to dry haha! xx

  17. I hate taking the time to paint my nails, only for them to smudge as soon as I'm finished, which happens ALL the time! Interested to hear about this - I wonder if there are other similar products out there that are cheaper?
