Pompeii The Movie: Fashion Inspiration

Thursday 1 May 2014

Last night, I headed to the cinema to watch Pompeii! I had high hopes for this film and I certainly wasn't disappointed. If you like action movies which can be a little intense at times, with some romance thrown in for good measure - this film is for you! Of course I only went for historical purposes and not because Jon Snow aka Kit Harington was in it. In 3D. A-hem.

Most of you know I love a good maxi dress, so I couldn't help but drool over the beautiful frocks the women were wearing. Pompeians had a pretty cool sense of style (or so Hollywood tells us) so I decided to have a quick browse to see if I could find any dresses in the style of those worn in the movie!

Pompeii FashionWhite Grecian Maxi Dress - £22.50.
This simple dress comes with a removable gold belt and looks so floaty and comfortable. I can imagine rockin' it with a halo braid. Super pretty and hella cheap! Wouldn't you agree?
 Oasis Green Cami Maxi Dress
Oasis
Plain Cami Maxi Dress - £68.
I'm extremely tempted to buy this maxi, it's such a yummy colour and has a beautiful shape! I noticed in the film the locals were wearing a lot of pastel shades but this vibrant green would make a great statement dress when at home or on holiday.

Mango Cross Back Maxi Dress
When did Mango become this expensive!? Possibly around the same time they started designing frocks this exquisite. I can definitely imagine the breathtakingly beautiful Cassia from Pompeii wearing this gown, I think the cross back detail makes it even more special.

Ted Baker Eleeia Pleated Maxi Dress
Perhaps one of Ted's designers is a Pompeian descendant and/or part-time Hollywood costume designer? Regardless, Ted Baker's range of pretty SS14 maxi dresses wouldn't look out of place on set. The lemon colour reminds me of sherbet lemons... Tasty!

This daytime maxi would've been ideal to wear while swanning around the local market stalls in Pompeii! It has a nice loose fit and delicate lace panels. I'm also adding it to my want list because I don't own any other dresses quite like it. I just know Milo (Kit's character) would approve...A-hem.

Have you watched Pompeii yet? Are you a fan of maxi dresses?

    1. Indeed, I tip my fedora to them. ;) It's such a beautiful shade but sadly it didn't suit my shape so I bought a slightly different one instead!

  9. Generally Hollywood has tended to be less than historically accurate with its style and garb, but those maxis are still pretty. I like the pleats and colour of the Oasis Plain Cami Maxi Dress and LOVE the design of the Eleeia Pleated Maxi Dress. I think you'd look stunning on the Red Carpet in either of them.
