Cute Petticoats At Boux Avenue!

Okay, so it's not for everyone, but we've quite fell for petticoats and the part they play in this season's western look (think boots, distressed tee, your fave jacket and dusty hair). Tara has got an American Apparel bad boy in the bag, but I'm yet to properly commit, howeverrrrr I'm quite keen on these frilly little numbers from Boux Avenue, the Vixie Lace Petticoat - £30 and available in peach, black and ivory. I spotted them when I was having a browse online and now I must find one to feel up in real life. They look full and flouncy, and I think I'm actually enjoying the lace overlay! Look it . . .

So yes, they're clearly undergarments but underwear as outerwear has been done a million times before and we're not scared of it anymore, so why the hell not?! I'm definitely off to Boux to see if I can catch me one of these varmints, and if it doesn't work as a skirt, then I'll treat the boyfriend to a little Saturday night saloon showgirl instead. Everyone's a winner ;)

WIN An Outfit With Next's Mother’s Day Competition!

Wednesday 27 February 2013

Today we're extremely excited to launch our latest competition with Next. We're giving one of our lucky readers the chance to win an outfit up to the value of £200!

To be in with the chance of winning this amazing prize, all you need to do is create a Mother's Day inspired blog post and share the link with us in a comment below. In your post you need to feature a Next outfit you'd dress your mum (or mother figure) in for a day out on Mother's Day. To give you an example, here is an outfit I created:

Mother's Day Outfit...

Blue Floral Dress / Neutral Jacket / Square Toe Court Shoes / Neutral Cut-Out Strap Watch / Nude Expander Bracelet / Dragonfly Drop Earrings / Gold Frame Clutch

Since my mum is a bit of a Next-a-holic, choosing an outfit to suit her was pretty easy. I headed straight for their dresses where I spotted this flattering floral dress which I think is a great statement piece and perfect for spring. Next have such a wide selection of jackets but I love the subtle neon pop on this one and it's a must for my mum who always covers the tops of her arms. I'm a big fan of square toe shoes so I picked these nude ones which she could wear again with almost anything. I kept my jewellery choices quite simple because she isn't a big bling lover but I think she'd look great wearing this pretty cut-out watch and stone bracelet combo. Finally I added these adorable dragonfly earrings (she loves nature) and since we both love statement bags, I picked this glittery clutch to take her look from day to evening! If money was no object, I'd whisk her away to London for some afternoon tea and then an evening meal followed by a show.

Now you've seen mine, it's time to show me yours! You have until 3pm on March 8th 2013 to enter. You can use pictures, links and social platforms to make your blog post as creative and original as possible. Please note, you do not necessarily win the products you selected for your blog post. Make sure you read the below T&C's before entering:

To enter Next’s Mother’s Day Competition, visit the relevant post at thestylerawr.com and submit the link to your blog post in a comment by 3pm on March 8th 2013.

Your blog post must showcase a Next outfit that you would style for your mum, or someone who is like a mum to you, for a day out on Mother’s Day.  This does not include products from brands other than Next. You may use pictures, links and social platforms to make your blog post as creative and original as possible.

The Competition is open to residents of the UK, Channel Islands, and Isle of Man aged 16 or over other than employees of Next, their families, associated agents, or anyone professionally connected with the promotion. One entry per person.

One winner will be chosen by host bloggers Tara and Jade of The Style Rawr. The winner will be notified after March 10th by email, containing details of how to claim the prize.  The prize will be an outfit up to the value of £200 subject to availability in the size and colour requested. This does not include products from brands other than Next. If any of the items selected are out of stock you will be asked to make another selection. You do not necessarily win the products selected for your blog post.

Bristol Bloggers Meet - #bbmeet!

Tuesday 26 February 2013

Last Saturday was the first #bbmeet aka Bristol Bloggers Meet! Set up by two gorgeous chicas, a bunch of bloggers from Bristol and it's surrounding areas got together to have a bit of a gossip and all around good time.
Organisers Sasha (Ramblings of a Beauty Bird) & Alessia (Whispers From Angels) holding some nspa raffle prizes!

It was held at Frankie & Benny's in Cabot Circus which was really cool but apologies for the dodgy restaurant lighting. I had such an awesome time hanging out with some familiar faces and making a few new blogger pals. I didn't take many snaps because I was having too much fun (always a good thing). Due to the layout of the tables (there were two huge ones full of bloggers), it was hard to talk to more than a handful of bloggers during our meal but some made an effort to stand up and mingle which was really nice.

Hanging out with Grace from Oooooh Pretty! I'm wearing a dress from Fashion Union, M&S bowler & my House of Harlow 1960 Necklace.

Steph (Stephanie Dreams) - Megan (The Briar Rose) - Kim (Sweet Monday)

After we'd finished eating we were given goodie bags and we all went off to have a shop. Some bloggers also met up later for a coffee to discuss what they'd bought! I know some of you are probably curious about what was inside the (heavy) goodie bags, so I thought I'd post some snaps. We were all really surprised and excited when the girls handed them out, it was like Christmas come early...

Eeeeeep! We were given lots of yummy beauty samples to try including products by Vichy, La Roche-Posay and Glamglow. I can't wait to start working my way through everything, my vanilla biscuit shower gel smells incredible and everyone was shocked to spot Benefit Fine One One in there! I think this was *almost* better than the goodie bag I received at the Cosmo Blog Awards! Tres impressive.

I feel really lucky to be in the South West, I don't mean to brag but we totally have all the best blogger meet-ups. Have you ever been to a blogger hangout before?

Oh To Be A Ted Baker PRINTcess!

Monday 25 February 2013

A few weeks ago I featured and fell in love with the JORIE horse print dress from Ted Baker, unfortunately I haven't been able to track it down in my size since BUT I may have a second shot at some Ted Baker-y print goodness for summer, since more quite frankly amazing pieces hit the store!

MIAMEE Printed Tunic - £139 - Available in 3 different prints, this Cinderella-esque one is my fave. Short of turning into a pumpkin at midnight, could this be any more magical?!
                    MIAMEE - Printed tunic
AVENN Swan Print Dress - £199 - This is just asking to be paired with my orange Choo's at this summer's wedding invite!
                 AVENN - Swan print dress
NITI Safari Print Shirt - £89 - Such a timeless print, so one you could wear for years, especially with Ted's quality. I'm currently tracking the dress version of this down (same shape as the JORIE horse print), again because it's a definite front runner for that summer wedding invite, you have to plan these things early if you want to avoid the dreaded guest dress duplication debacle!
                    NITI - Safari print shirt
BRIZINK Bird Printed Denim - £109 - DIES. There are no other words really.

                    BRIZINK - Bird printed denim
Ted Baker is killing it this season, nailing strong but pretty prints all the way and making it really easy to kit yourself out for summer events and occasions. Weddings, races and garden parties are something I usually hate finding dresses and outfits for but I could definitely do a clean sweep at Ted!

J - Pretty in print.

Rawrgirls Review . . . Lauren's Way Dancing Glow!

Sunday 24 February 2013

I love a bit of colour but I've never tried any of the Lauren's Way tanning products, and before we start with the review I'm totally going to admit to thinking that Lauren's Way tanning products were probably darker than dark fake tans for TOWIE glamazon girls, which is the main reason why I've never tried any before (I'm naturally pale skinned so super dark fake tans just look too fake for me). However, a quick Google search pulls up a gazillion positive reviews, so I cast my doubts aside to try Dancing Glow (£18.95 for 250ml). Developed to celebrate creator TOWIE's Lauren Goodger's Dancing On Ice appearance, it claims to be an instant sheer matte tan that develops into a bronzed glow.

I went through my usual pre-tan routine of exfoliating, then moisturising only my knees, elbows and ankles, and grabbed my tanning mitt. Tanning mitts are lifesavers for fake tan fans (or should that be handsavers?!). Most products include instant colour now which is good, but the struggle to wash it off your palms after applying a full body work up is nightmarish stuff that often involves bleach!

The pump action bottle makes it easy to get a good amount out each time. It deposited a VERY dark brown cream onto my mitt, and I went for it starting with my legs where it smoothed on really easily and sunk in super quickly. I struggled with the first lower leg because I wasn't expecting it to dry so fast! Seriously, it was less than 60 seconds which took me by surprise and meant I hadn't quite got my stroke up to speed, so I was worried that leg would develop into a streaky mess mainly because the instant colour looked a bit iffy due to my over-careful application. Anyway, lesson learnt and I went on to do the rest of my body with more success. The instant colour is quite dark but still fairly natural and the scent is pretty yummy, reminding me of Fruit Loops cereal - nom. I also did my face with a quick sweep of the mitt, for a natural sunkissed look when it develops. My skin was dry enough to put my pj's on as soon as I had finished which is pretty amazing. I was even confidently dry enough to pull my legs up on the sofa to watch tv, instead of the usual spreadeagled position sat on a towel for 4 hours! Impressive stuff.

It recommends leaving the tan on for 8 hours before showering off, so I left it overnight. It didn't come off on my sheets but it did develop a VERY strong fake tan smell (I'm yet to find a fake tan that doesn't have at least a hint of this on the first day), so consider yourself warned ;)

And the post shower verdict? AMAZING! I totally expected to be an unnatural dark orange but I have this totally natural golden glow which is perfect for my skin tone! It's the exact colour that I tan to after about 4 days abroad, and perfectly streak free so it looks super natural. I was also surprised at how good my knees and elbows looked, they are actually the same tone as the rest of my body which is practically unheard of even with professional application. Even the leg I thought I had messed up on was perfectly even - hurrah!

I'm into my 3rd day of wear now and there's no fade yet, and no sign of any patchiness coming through either so I'm super happy with the results. I do have one negative point, but it's the same old complaint we all have - the fake tan smell has only just faded. I could still smell it on myself yesterday after about 9200 baths and showers, but today it seems to have finally gone. I've read reviews that say Dancing Glow lasted well up to 7 days and I can believe it if I'm showing zero fade on day 3! Overall, highly recommended, especially for us pale girls who normally shy away from fake tan until we've got a bit of summer sun colour anyway. Natural, easy to use and seemingly long lasting. OMG, if you get this your mates will be well jel.

T's Favourite Beauty Products - February Edition!

Saturday 23 February 2013

I like to think I'm pretty clued up when it comes to fashion and how to dress myself. If my pals have a style dilemma, I'm always on standby to give advice! However, when it comes to beauty products, I'm not so educated.

I'm ashamed to admit I'm the girl who uses face wipes to remove her make-up. I know. However, I am trying to change my ways by investing in quality skincare/beauty products. I've decided I'm going to start posting (at least monthly) about the products I'm currently using and loving.

1. bareMinerals Renew & Hydrate Eye Cream (£23)
Not too long ago I had a mini freak out because I started to notice fine lines appearing around my eyes. Scared it was the beginning of the end, I confessed my fears to Jade who told me not to worry and that she knew just what I needed. A few days later (like magic) this cream arrived in the post. Since then I've been religiously slapping it on my under eyes before bed and although I'm not convinced it's affecting my fine lines/wrinkles, it is really refreshing! My under eyes do appear brighter and it lasts forever. It's a little expensive at £23, but considering how little I use every night, I'd say it's worth it.

2. Mario Badescu Oil Free Moisturiser SPF 30 (£22 for 59ml)
Mario who? Okay, so if any professional beauty bloggers out there are reading this, I'm sorry I had never heard of Mario Badescu prior to this product. It came as part of the Harvey Nichols AW12 gift with purchase offer and is a decent sized sample. I have sensitive skin which can get a little dry during winter but this moisturiser is incredible! I'm not sure I'll need it during summer (I might switch to a cheaper one) but at this time of year it's perfect for banishing dry skin. I'm definitely going to buy the full version when this runs out! Love it.

3. Burt's Bees Ultimate Care Body Lotion (£11.99)
Confession time, this is my favourite body lotion ever. I've tried so many different lotions and none compare to this one. As mentioned above, I can get dry skin during winter, especially on my poor pins! I've tried all kinds of body butters, including products by Nivea, Dove, Vaseline, Body Shop and Soap & Glory but they have nothing on this bad boy! It's 99% natural and has a really nice consistency, like an expensive sun cream. It absorbs quickly and smells nice and natural. I actually have to hide this from my boyfriend who probably owns more Burt's Bees products than me. If you have dry skin, buy this. For more Burt's Bees lovin', check out J's review from last week!

4. Superdry Neon Blue Fragrance (£35 for 40ml)
I love this perfume. I think it's always a bit risky when brands branch into beauty as it can be a bit hit or miss, but the Superdry crew totally nailed their new fragrances. J reviewed the Neon Purple fragrance last year, and now Neon Blue is my new scent of choice. Every perfume I own is fruity and this one is no exception. It's light and smells like apples, melons and pears. If you're a fan of DKNY's Be Delicious, I guarantee you'll like this. Another thing worth mentioning is the bottle, the lid is partially attached so it's like a lighter lid! Awesome. My perfume lids are forever popping off and rolling under things so this little design feature is pretty neat.

Have you used any of these products? Do you have an recommendations for me?

I'm Wearing Boohoo in Bristol! #GlobalStyler

Friday 22 February 2013

We were recently asked to take part in the #GlobalStyler campaign with boohoo! Jade already blogged about her outfit earlier this week and today it's my turn! I chose to style the Erin Boucle Biker Jacket (£40).

Hat: M&S - Jacket: c/o boohoo - Dress: Topshop - Socks: New Look - Boots: Glamorous

I picked this jacket because I don't own any other boucle jackets but absolutely love them! I'm really impressed with this one because these snaps were taken a few weeks ago when it was FREEZING but this beauty kept me warm! I think this outfit is a little school girl-esque and reminds me of Clueless. The 90's were the best.

You've probably spotted this campaign popping up all over the bloggersphere but just in case you aren't sure what it's about, you can read all the info here. Boohoo are basically giving one lucky fashionista a pair of tickets to any destination in the world! If a blogger wins, they will receive an additional £1000 in boohoo vouchers to giveaway or keep. Uh-mazing (FYI: Unlike Jade, I'd throw some your way if I won! ;).

All you need to do is tweet/instagram a snap of you wearing boohoo with the hashtag #GlobalStyler. Simples.

Have you entered this competition yet? Are you a fan of my new jacket?

T - Like, totally. XoX

SS13 Western Trend ft Ravi Famous and Steve Madden Cowboy Boots!

Thursday 21 February 2013

So I've been going on for a while now about how much I love the Spring/Summer 13 Western Trend. Although today's outfit post isn't full-blown western (that will be coming when it warms up), it is a tad Wild Wild West.

Hat: Zara - Necklace: Next - Belt: New Look - Bracelet: Accessorize - Dress: c/o Ravi Famous - Cowboy boots: Steve Madden

While taking these snaps I walked past a bunch of mini-chavs who shouted "EWWWWW!" Hopefully you don't find these piccies yucky, I'm rather fond of this outfit but clearly the little delinquents weren't feeling it. This Joyce Lace Dress (£25) is c/o Ravi Famous and strangely reminds me of something out of Pride and Prejudice (the young, cool version).

I love how it looks with my Swaret cowboy boots from Steve Madden (which are now on sale). If I had the money I would definitely buy the black ones too, they are so comfy! This gem of a cowboy hat was spotted by Jade in the Zara sale for £8 or something like that. Bargain.

Have you bought yourself a pair of cowboy boots yet and are you digging the Western trend? I bought another new pair from Bertie which I possibly love even more than these ones. I just can't get enough!

T - She's a wild one. XoX

#whatsinyourpocket? A MoneySupermarket Feel Good Purchase!

Wednesday 20 February 2013

A few week's ago MoneySupermarket.com invited me to take part in their #whatsinyourpocket blogger campaign. They explained that they want people to celebrate life's little wins, to get that momentary thrill of finding money in your pocket or bag that you didn't know was there?! They would give us £20 and we could spend it on anything we like, as long as it made us, or someone else, feel good! Sounds like a plan right!?

I thought about it for a while, what to buy? A big jar of my favourite sweets? Lunch for my BF and I? An expensive lipgloss that I might normally have to tell myself that I don't need? And then I saw my sad Build A Bear Hello Kitty sitting on the shelf. BF had bought her for me 3 christmas's ago, and she was still wearing the same tired, out of season outfit. As a fashion blogger, this cut me to my core. Here I was constantly updating my wardrobe and making sure I was set for every occasion, yet I had allowed my good friend to fester in mono-outfit HELL. And CASUAL CAMO HELL at that. Sure, she had Timbs on her feet but Hello Kitty is a girly girl at heart and I suddenly saw the pain in her expressive dark eyes. I knew what I had to do.

Outfit : PJ's - Harajuku Hugs 'G I Love U' (£10), Slippers - Harajuku Hugs Slippers (£4.50), G Doll Accessory (£5), Dressing Gown (£4), Bow - model's own.

The new Build A Bear Harajuku Hugs range was meant to be all over my HK and I literally squeed when I saw it in the online store. I'm a HUGE Gwen Stefani fan and I already have a gajillion of the HL fragrances, so obviously my girl had to have a piece of the wicked style! I chose the bedtime outfit because having realised that I have neglected her for so long, I decided to promote her from shelf sitter to bed warmer therefore it's only fitting that she is wearing the cutest nightwear ;)

I couldn't resist the adorable G doll! It took me over budget but I figured I owed her a little something extra for all the years she wore dog tags. No girl should ever have to go through that. Shudder.

So there we go, happy Hello Kitty, and happy me! Thanks to MoneySupermarket for the push I needed to open my eyes and stop the rot. From now on, this Hello Kitty will always sit pretty :)

J - I know we're cool.

I'm Wearing BooHoo In Runcorn! #GlobalStyler

We were recently asked to take part in BooHoo.com's new global campaign, #GlobalStyler, an amazing competition where 1 lucky guy or girl can win a pair of tickets to anywhere in the world! Plus if a blogger wins, they also get £1000 to spend at BooHoo.com, OR give away on their blog! Not gonna lie people, you'd have to prise them out of my kung fu grip ;)

Anyhoo, we got to choose a BooHoo piece each to style up for the campaign, so I went for the Polly Cross Back Ponte Roma Pinafore Dress (now just £10!) in black (also available in grey and coral), because pinafore's are pretty darn huge for S/S13 and I hadn't yet bought one!

You can't argue with it for the price; it's flattering, the material is nice and thick and the skirt hangs well so I'm really pleased with it! I decided to style it up with a light knit, some cute tights and a statement bag and boots combo, to turn a simple dress into something special.

Outfit : Pinafore - c/o BooHoo.com, Cat Face Jumper - Wildfox, Cat Ear Tights - Pamela Mann, Striped Lita Boots - Jeffrey Campbell, Studded Heart Bag - Topshop.

If you fancy a go of winning that epic prize, just follow the instructions here, which involves sharing a pic of you wearing your fave BooHoo.com piece where you live, with the hashtag #GlobalStyler. Closing date is 25th March 2013 and the T&C's are here! GO!

Review & Giveaway: Win 1 of 2 Necklaces With Sphere of Life Jewellery!

Tuesday 19 February 2013

Today we are launching a very exciting giveaway with Sphere of Life, a unique London-based jewellery company! Sphere of Life design jewellery pieces with emotional value, each item has a special meaning and comes with a 'story card' featuring the design's name and inspiration.

They recently contacted us to ask if we'd like to choose a piece to review and also hold a giveaway for our readers. We were really excited and obviously jumped at the chance, they have so many amazing collections and we were spoilt for choice. Our chosen necklaces arrived the next day in the most beautiful packaging! Read on to find out what we picked...

Jade's pick:

The Keep Smiling necklace (£34.20) is a sterling silver pendant with 18 carat gold plating on a silver chain from the Sphere of Life Cute collection which is aimed at both adults and kids who like to have fun with their jewelz, so it's the perfect line for me! I chose it because it has a real 90's vibe which is really hot right now, but also because I love the message - keep smiling! I also love the way it has a gold smiley face on one side, and a black one on the other so I can switch it up with different outfits!

It's small but perfectly formed, I've had loads of compliments on how sweet it is and it makes everyone feel cheery :) I always try to look on the bright side of life and this little guy is helping big time!

For my Sphere of Life inspired outfit I paired Keep Smiling with a fun graphic tshirt, bold faux leather red skirt, adorable cat ear design tights and my amazing stripey boots for a look that is bound to make someone smile, even if it's just smirking to themselves when passing me by!

Outfit : Coat - Reiss, Robert Pattinson Tshirt - Eleven Paris at ASOS, Red Faux Leather Skirt - Mary Jane Fashion, Tights - Pamela Mann, Boots - Jeffrey Campbell, Jewellery detail  - Keep Smiling necklace from Sphere of Life Cute.

Tara's Pick:

I chose the My Missing Piece necklace (£62.90), a sterling silver jigsaw puzzle ball necklace with one jigsaw piece accentuated with a touch of 18k Gold plating. I was instantly drawn to this necklace which is part of the Sphere of Life Silver CollectionThe necklaces in this collection are designed around themes from all aspects of life and love and since I'm a total softie, this is by far my favourite range.

This piece feels really sentimental and it would make the perfect gift for a loved one. I can't help but think of my handsome beau when I wear it, he's definitely my missing piece. As you can see it's slightly bigger than Jade's necklace but it's still nice and delicate.

I opted to wear My Missing Piece with a floral flocked dress, my trusty bowler hat, studded leather belt and some ankle boots! I also think it would look lovely with a dressier outfit or super cute with a graphic tee and some jeans. Wearing it makes me feel warm and fuzzy like all my favourite pieces of jewellery do.

Outfit : Dress - Glamorous at Fashion Union, Hat - M&S, Belt - Topshop, Bracelets - Chlobo & New Look, Ring - Forever 21, Boots - Glamorous, My Missing Piece necklace from Sphere of Life Silver.

What do you think of our choices? Do you like how we styled our necklaces?

Burt's Bees - Honey, We're Home!

Sunday 17 February 2013

Literally EVERYONE in Rawrville loves Burt's Bees, not just Tara and I, but our boys too! It's probably one of the only beauty ranges we buy that our men are happy to have on their side of the bathroom shelves, and we've just discovered a few more new Burt's Bees faves that we can all share, so obviously we wanted to share with you too :)

First up is the Ultimate Care Body Lotion, £11.99. It combines Baobab oil, Pumpkin Seed Oil and Green Tea Extract, is 99% natural and will provide all day moisturisation.

Tara and I both get really dry skin in the winter, constantly covering up and indulging in hot baths can take it's toll, and I have always suffered with sensitive skin on my legs so a good body lotion is an essential piece of kit. We both agree that this one from Burt's is a godsend. You don't need a lot to get that luxurious happy skin feeling, and it sinks comfortably in without leaving a nasty sticky film. I've been using it after a shower or bath for about a week now and the difference in my skin is amazing, no more itchy shins! It's also fragrance free, so the boys have been using it too (though sparingly and generally on manly parts like rough elbows and ankles!), as it powers through male body hair like a boss to the skin beneath!

My guy actually bought a Burt's Beeswax & Banana Hand Creme all by himself last year (I convelled when he pulled it out of the bag!) and uses it religiously before bed every night so I knew he'd love to share the Tips and Toes Kit, £12.99. It's a collection of Burt's hand and feet products so you can try them all out before going in for the full sizes, and contains Almond Milk Hand Creme, Hand Salve, Thoroughly Therapeutic Honey & Grapeseed Hand Creme, Coconut Foot Creme, Lemon Butter Cuticle Creme and a Replenishing Lip Balm.
The boys LOVE this kit. My guy works with his hands all day, and is often outside in the cold, so he's no stranger to a hand product and knows what he likes. He is loving the Hand Salve, an intensive treatment for hardworking hands. A little goes a very long way, and we'll definitely be investing in a full size pot for him! We've all been using the Lemon Butter Cuticle Creme, which is surprising because you'd assume it was aimed at women, but the scent is so yummy and it gives your nails such a clean, fresh feeling that it's been a hit all around! Us girls were immediately taken with the Coconut Foot Creme, but the boys preferred to use the Ultimate Care Body Lotion on their feet. Maybe the scent is a little off putting for the masculine nose but we loved it! The 100% natural Almond Milk Hand Creme is a dream and the scent is delicious, while the boys preferred the more discreet but just as effective Thoroughly Therapeutic Honey & Grapeseed Hand Creme. Finally, we all fought over the Replenishing Lip Balm! It's slightly tinted so the boys were hesitant, but it's a natural tint that is included to make lips look as renewed and as healthy as they feel after using it, so the flush of colour is barely noticeable and the balm took effect after just one application! Overall, this is a great little starter kit and would make a lovely gift for a Burt's fan, man or woman. We've definitely found a few new faves that we'll be buying in full sizes!

Are you a Burt's Bees fan like us? Got any recommendations for us?

J - Bzzzzzzzzzzz.
