I'm Too Sexy For Debenhams?

Thursday 13 January 2011

SO, I recently purchased the GORGEOUS Jonathan Aston for Burlesque over the knee 'Ringer' Socks from Debenhams (£8); sexy, stripey hold ups that in my mind deserved a good review seeing as no-one on Debenhams.com had gone there yet. So I submitted the following, with a 5 star rating mind, and it was REJECTED - bahahahaaa!!

Sexy & Stripey!

Don't be fooled by the description of 'socks', they would be better described as 'over the knee hold ups' due to the nature of the material which is a more like lovely, smooth opaque stockings/tights. I've wanted good stripey black and white hold ups like these for some time after loving the look of the Pussycat Dolls burlesque 'sailor' style show and I'm so happy to have found these! The stretch in them is very good, and even if you pull them higher than over the knee, it doesn't affect the colour or edges of the black stripes, and the cuff at the top stays put wherever it lands with minimal fall down. I have washed mine since purchase and found the colours and quality to hold firm as expected from Jonathan Aston hosiery, so overall, I can't fault the item for the price. Now I just need to see the Burlesque movie to get some new moves!

Girls, I've never been rejected in my life, and boy does it hurt!
The Debs Review Guidelines state...

We reserve the right not to post your review if it contains any of the following types of content or violates other guidelines:
•Obscenities, discriminatory language, or other language not suitable for a public forum
•Advertisements, “spam” content, or references to other products, offers, or websites
•Email addresses, URLs, phone numbers, physical addresses or other forms of contact information
•Critical or spiteful comments on other reviews posted on the page or their authors

I didn't think I had said anything potentially offensive. I doubt the words 'burlesque' or 'sexy' are deemed 'not suitable for a public forum', especially with an item that let's face it, is of a provocative nature, and the fact that the description on the product page says 'Earn some stripes in slinky sex appeal with these black 'Ringer' over-the-knee socks from the burlesque range by Jonathan Aston', therefore spouting both words anyway?!

Is mentioning the 'Pussycat Dolls' or the 'Burlesque' movie a 'reference to other products'? Surely not? Referencing PCD as a style influence is surely just like saying 'I bought this top because I saw Fearne Cotton wearing it...' which I bet is a common way to start a fashion review? As for mentioning the movie, the range is inspired by the movie which also features on the packaging which again, is on the product listing soooooo...? I certainly didn't cross the latter guidelines so I'm assuming it was something along these lines that put me on the naughty list. Humph.

I have to say, poor show Debs. Anyone who knows my writing style from this blog will see that I had massively toned down that review for public consumption, there's not even one utterance of my favourite adjective 'HOT!' in sight!

Is it possible that Debenhams just didn't like my review (GASP!!)? Do they work like that?

Sooooo, to test my theory, I have resubmitted my review, entitled it 'Really cute' (lame), omitted the references to PCD and the movie on which the hosiery range is inspired by and pressed submit. I shall keep you updated if it gets posted.

Btw, if anyone can see where I went wrong or has any further ideas, I would be really interested and not at all offended if you commented, please put me out of my misery!

J - feeling impotent and out of control.
